Missed chances haunt Mavs in 3-0 defeat to Foster

Jackson Schwank and Chase Albright combined on a six-hitter, as the Foster Falcons blanked the Manvel Mavericks by a 3-0 count Friday night in 24-5A Baseball action at Mavericks’ Field.

Capped by a frustrating bottom of the seventh inning, Manvel (8-12 overall, 7-5 in district) stranded a staggering 10 runners during the evening. Isaiah Walker (2-for-4) and Myles Simmons both reached base for the Mavs after being hit by Albright pitches with one out in the frame. However, Eric Benitez was retired on a liner to center field and Albright then coaxed a game-ending fly ball to right off Tyler Labbe’s bat. Jacob Flores got the Falcons on the board with an RBI single in the third, while Foster added two insurance tallies in the sixth on Cade Sitka’s run-scoring double and Zach Schroeder’s RBI single. Benitez took the hard luck defeat on the mound, allowing six hits and one walk, while striking out nine.
