Manvel lands 20 players on 11-5A Football team

The Division II state quarterfinalist Manvel Mavericks landed 20 players on the All-District 11-5A Football team.

Senior running back Donovan Eaglin joined senior wide receiver Jalen Paxton and lineman Jaden Payne on the first team offense, while tackles De`undre Potts and Brian Wilturner both gained first team defensive berths, along with ends Keelan Cox and Demetrius Foley, inside linebackers Justin Medlock and Mycah Sesay, outside linebacker Jaqai Neal, saftey Trayvon Jenkins and cornerbacks Vincent Brown and Xavier Carter.

Austyn Bond also made the first team special teams cut at punter.

Eaglin, who exploded for over 800 yards during the playoffs, rushed for 1,584 yards on 172 carries and 25 TD’s, while Paxton caught 41 receptions for 854 yards and 11 TD’s.

Medlock delivered a team-leading 117 tackles and Sesay was close behind with 95 tackles. Cox provided nine sacks and nine tackles for losses, as well.

Quarterback Tucker Yarborough was named to the second team offense for Manvel, along with running back De`monte Seymore, receivers Zion Jonkins and Jalen Walthall and lineman Keif Gordon. End Josiah Kennard made the second team defense and kicker Luis Moreno was selected on the second team special teams unit.

Yarborough passed for 2,955 yards, 40 touchdowns and only four interceptions. Walthall hauled in 36 receptions for 764 yards and 13 TD’s, while Jonkins collected 33 catches for 358 yards and three TD’s.

Moreno converted 56 of 60 extra point attempts and hit four of his six field goal tries.

Manvel captured the 11-5A crown with a perfect 10-0 record and went 13-1 overall. Kevin Hall’s squad posted playoff victories over Nederland (49-14), Lamar Consolidated (62-34) and Barbers Hill (55-35).

Quarterback Malik Hornsby, of state finalist Fort Bend Marshall, and Buffaloes’ running back Devon Achane headed the other 11-5A first team offensive picks.

The remaining field included running back Jamarcus Baker (Willowridge); fullback Javion Chatman (Willowridge); receivers Daleon Lewis (Waltrip), Orvis Fowler (Houston Waltrip), Lidarian Carter (Willowridge) and Devonndre Moore (Houston Northside); tight end Jamaal Ulmer (Marshall); and linemen Larry Moore (Fort Bend Marshall), Dyalan Malveaux (Marshall), Lorenzo Thomas (Marshall), Ulises Aguire (Northside), Manny Martinez (Northside), Matthew Brown (Willowridge), Jeremiah Strickland (Willowridge) and Damian Ruiz (Milby).

Frank Brown (Houston Sterling) was named the district’s most valuable player and the top offensive accolade went to Ronald Holmes (Northside).

The other first team defensive selections went to tackle Tristian Drones-Mouton (Fort Bend Marshall); end Laquinn Harkless (Houston Sterling), inside linebacker Kenny Seymore (Fort Bend Marshall); outside LB’s Norman Baker (Marshall) and Cameron Malveaux (Sterling); safeties Christian Jackson (Marshall) and Leroy Joubert; and cornerback Sylvester Labome (Marshall).

Warren Robinson (Marshall) received the MVP award for the defensive side of the ball, while Christopher Martinez (Northside) took the newcomer accolade and Kanavis McGhee (Sterling) was tabbed as the district’s top coach.

The first team special awards also went to kicker Idi M`Mongelwa (Marshall), deep snapper Al Carrasco (Waltrip) and returner Keshunn Lewis (Willowridge).

John Foster (Sterling) was named the special teams player of the year.

The second team offense also featured quarterbacks Anthony Brown (Sterling) and Rufus Scott (Willowridge); running back Vernon Mosley (Sterling); fullback Dontry Betts (Milby); receivers Chris Williams (Waltrip), Ja`vion Matthews (Marshall) and Mar`Quise Garrett (Willowridge); tight ends Kolby Cohen (Willowridge) and Matthew Sanchez (Milby); and linemen Alfred Carrasco (Waltrip), Joel Rodriguez (Waltrip), Alejandro (Willowridge), Andy Garcia (Sterling) and Gabriel Shippard (Madison).

The second team defensive selections were rounded out by tackles Edward Brown (Marshall), Jose Bonilla (Willowridge), Edward Veliz (Milby) and Maurion Williams-Jack (Madison); ends Jacob Escobedo (Waltrip) and Quincy Blair (Marshall); linebackers Jaylon Green (Waltrip), Gustavo Govea (Northside), Steven Olivera (Willowridge), Raymond Olivera (Willowridge), Derek Ledet (Marshall), Anthony Stevens (Willowridge) and Andre Williams (Willowridge); and defensive backs David Bradford (Madison), Avery Helm (Marshall), Kelsey Piere (Willowridge), Jalen Rice (Marshall) and Archie Seals (Wi...
