The Mavericks (18-10 overall, 10-4 in district) kept their playoff hopes alive with a clutch home victory Saturday afternoon.
Manvel erupted for a five-run third inning to collect the victory. The Mavs currently stand in third place in the 23-5A baseball standings with two games left in the regular season. Manvel plays at Texas City Tuesday at 7 p.m. and at Galena Park April 27 at 7 p.m.
Manvel hurler and winning pitcher Jonathan Jones scattered eight hits and struck out five in a complete game performance on the mound, while Isaiah Benavidez joined Damon Fernandez and Myles Simmons with doubles.
