Senior Shelby Browning was named the league’s top goal keeper for the second straight season to head the bi-district finalist Manvel Lady Mavericks’ 10 selections to the All-District 23-5A girls’ soccer team.

Manvel teammates joining Browning on the first team were juniors Anahi Altamirano and Toni Reid and senior Breanne Saldivar. Shadow Creek sophomore Reagan Forrest also made the first team list.

Lady Mavs’ players gaining second team nods included freshman Zoe Grimes, junior Alexia Salazar and freshman Emma Vanberschot. The second team pick for the Lady Sharks featured freshman Loren Arzayus.

Honorable mention status for Manvel went to senior Erika Malveaux, sophomore Tori Reed and senior Elizabeth Zubiate, along with SC junior Alicia Sanchez.

The area all-district academic list included Altamirano, Saldivar, Vanberschot and Zubiate for the Lady Mavs, while the Lady Sharks’ picks were Melissa Alegria, Arzayus, Olivia Brown, Vianett Campos, Ashley Divver, Alyssa Duff, Leanne Le, Gabriela Lopez, Jessica Obispo, Giselle Paz Rubio, Genesis Rios, Joanna Saucedo and Jaelyn Scott.

The Manvel girls advanced to the playoffs for the second straight year and dropped a 2-1 squeaker to Porter in the bi-district round.

The remaining first team picks went as follows: Elkins - Leslie Braddick, Josephine Henry, Jessica Neal, Katarina Shanar, Grace Snyder and Alyssa Zamora; Galena Park - Cindy Flores and Giessel Garcia; Galveston Ball - Haile Hernandez; Marshall - Ana Guillen; Santa Fe - Alyssa Williams, Callie Wylie, Brooke Sumbles and Allie Moore; Texas City - Amanda Valdez, Karissa Victoria, Jaycee Thiem, Angry Orea and Valerie Velasquez; and Willowridge - Ana Hernandez.

Elkins’ Lauryn Weller collected most valuable player honors, while Lady Knight Saverina Faraone was named the offensive player of the year and Belen Estupinan, of Galena Park, was tabbed as the district’s top defender. Texas City’s Amanda Valdez earned the newcomer of the year award and the coach of the year accolade went to Elkins’ Kristen Adams.
