Green, Mancha named to All-Greater Houston preseason girls' basketball squad

A pair of local senior point guards were named to the Houston Chronicle’s All-Greater Houston area preseason girls’ basketball team earlier this week.

Manvel Lady Maverick Mckinzie Green was selected to the first team, while Alvin Lady Yellowjacket Andreea Mancha earned a second team nod.

Green, a Texas A&M commit, helped the Lady Mavs post a 28-9 mark last season and as the district’s second seed, Manvel advanced to the playoffs for the ninth straight year, topping Houston Wisdom and Beaumont Ozen in the bi-district and area rounds, respectively.

Green went on to gain offensive player of the year honors in 23-5A and was both a Region III and all-state selection by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

Helping Alvin advance to the Region III-6A quarterfinals for the program’s deepest playoff run since 2007, Mancha paced Alvin in minutes per game (28.5), points per game (12.9), three-pointers (70), steals per game (2.0) and assists per game (1.9). The 5-6 guard scored a team-leading 67 points (22.3 average) in Alvin’s three playoff games, as well.

Mancha was also a first-team selection in 24- 6A and gained all-region honors from the TABC.

The All-Greater Houston first team also included Liz Scott (Klein Oak), DeYona Gaston (Pearland), Rori Harmon (Cy Creek) and Tellisha Brown (Wheatley). Rounding out the second team is Jada Malone (The Village School), Allie Byrd (Kingwood), Kaylynne Truong... Click here to read full article
