Noah Crowell slugged a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Angleton to a dramatic 8-7 victory over Manvel in 24-5A Baseball action Friday night.

Zack Medart doubled with one out to left field in the frame off Mavericks’ reliever Dillon Novak, while Crowell followed with a shot into the right-field corner just beyond the reach of the MHS outfield to plate the winning tally.

The win gave the league-leading Wildcats a sweep of the district series and also spoiled a huge Manvel comeback. The Mavs trailed 6-0 after the initial frame, but struck for three runs in the second and four in the fifth to take the upper hand at 7-6.

Eric Benitez belted a two-run homer to left to highlight the Manvel rally in the fifth, while Novak and Riley Palomarez both delivered run-scoring doubles.

“We dug ourselves out of a hole and the kids were really resilient tonight,” Manvel head coach Kelly Kerlin said following the game. “But you got to tip your hat to Angleton. “They’re a really good team and we’re just going to have to shake this off and get Terry next week.”

Angleton capitalized on three Manvel errors and RBI singles by Medart, Crowell and Justus Mayon to jump to a quick 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Mavs (3-3 in district) immediately cut the margin in half in the second, thanks to Palomarez’s RBI double and run-producing singles by Ladarius Owens and Isaiah Walker. Palomarez also kept the Mavs in the thick of things with the senior only allowing one run in 3 1/3 solid relief innings on the mound.
